Description

Hill View Farm House is a house dating from the mid to late 16th century, altered in the early 17th century and further modified and refaced in the 19th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with rubble and brick bands, and is rendered and whitewashed. The house features a thatched roof with gable ends and had a brick gable stack on the left side and near the center, although the left stack has recently been demolished. The building is single storey with an attic and is likely of long-house origin, presenting a four-window range.

The ground floor includes two 4-pane sash windows, with the left window situated beneath a segmental brick arch. To the right, there is a 2-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars. Above, there are three hipped dormers featuring 19th-century sashes with vertical glazing bars. The entrance has a 18th-century door located under a curved hood on brackets, likely in its original opening leading into the cross-passage.

Internally, the hall contains a large open fireplace with a cambered oak lintel and remnants of a bread oven. The ceiling features deeply chamfered intersecting beams, and the head beam between the hall and the former inner room has mortices for a varnished plank and muntin partition. The roof is of jointed cruck construction and is smoke-blackened, with significant remains of the original wattle ceiling.
