Description

Corner Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers, except for the left bay which is of coursed chalk and sarsen rubble. The rear of the building is brick, and a queen post truss from the original timber-framed structure remains in the right gable wall. The roof is thatched, with brick ridge and a late 19th-century brick stack at the left end. The house follows a 3-unit lobby entry plan. It is two storeys high with a 3-window front, plus a half-hipped roof. The entrance features a chamfered timber lintel over a planked door. The windows are 20th-century casements, with segmental arches over a 3-light window and a 2-light window. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
