Description
The Hatchet Public House is a building that dates back to around 1830, with an earlier wing from the mid to late 18th century located at the rear left. The structure is made of coursed chalk and sarsen rubble, featuring brick quoins and dressings, all of which are colour-washed in white. The right side and rear walls are finished in imitation stone render. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and includes brick stacks.
The building has a double-depth plan and stands two stories tall with a three-window range. A central 20th-century door is framed by a moulded wood architrave, supported by carved brackets under a flat hood. The windows are 8-pane horned sashes set beneath segmental brick arches. The roof is hipped, with a stack at the left end and a lateral stack at the rear.
The earlier mid to late 18th-century wing at the rear left features roughcast walling and an old tiled roof, along with a brick stack. This wing is also two stories tall and has a two-window range with 20th-century casements, and a flat hood over the door located to the right, along with a large ridge stack.
