Description

WEYMOUTH

SY6685 CHURCH STREET, Upwey 873-1/5/552 (West side) William Every monument approx. 10m south of Church of St Laurence

GV II

Headstone. Dated 1720. Portland stone. A thick slab to double arched head, with a sunk oval panel under 2 smaller ovals. The inscription, all in caps, includes "Joan, the wife of William Every decesde this life the 2 day of February in 1720". The design, and nature of the lettering, suggests an earlier date, but this may be an archaising mason at work.
