Three Monuments Approximately 3 Metres South Of The Porch Of Church Of St Ann

Three headstones are located approximately 3 meters south of the porch of the Church of St Ann in Weymouth. These monuments date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are made of Portland stone. They have been reset on the west side of the path leading to the south porch.

From the south, the first headstone is a plain rectangular slab with bold lettering, commemorating William Moulam, who died in 1737, with the inscription 'MEMENTO MORI' in large capitals underneath. The second headstone, to the north of the first, is a very thick slab with a triple curved head, dedicated to Sarah, the wife of John Moulem, who died in 1749. The third headstone, immediately to the north of the second, features a thick slab with a rounded head and a moulded edge surrounding a sunk panel. It commemorates Edward Bealle, the son of Jeremiah Beale, who died in 1694, and his wife Mary.

These three headstones are among the earliest monuments in the churchyard, which contains many others. They reflect some challenges faced by the masons in spelling or correcting errors on the stone. The headstones are prominently positioned along the approach to the church porch.
