Description
The Bayly and Strode monuments are two headstones located approximately 5 meters north of the north aisle of the Church of All Saints in Weymouth. The first headstone is made of Portland stone and commemorates Elizabeth, the wife of Nicholas Bayly, who died in 1724-25. It features a thick stone with a scrolled top and haunches, along with a plain surface that has an incised margin. The inscription is notably clear, indicating her death on 1 March and the date as 1724-5. The second headstone, located about 3 meters east of the first, is dedicated to John Strode and dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. This smaller stone is partly sunk and has a broad Ionic scrolled head, a sunk panel with an ovolo-mould surround, and a raised open book with an inscription.
