Description
The lych gate to the Church of All Saints, dated 1897, is located on Portland Road in Wyke Regis. It is constructed from Portland stone ashlar and features a timber frame with a tiled pyramidal roof. The roof has a square pyramidal shape topped with a small wooden cross. It is supported by a central pair of transverse beams and four struts that connect to the hip rafters. The beams rest on paired posts that have traceried tops and small balusters at the bottom, with X-form supports on a plate attached to a low stone wall that has chamfered coping and square ends. The timber framing is all pegged. The gate includes a pair of wooden gates with turned baluster rails and a short stone bench on stone brackets on either side. Each of the transverse beams is inscribed with "AD 1897."
