Description
The Wyke Regis War Memorial is a Neo-Baroque style monument built around the 1920s to honor the men of Wyke Regis who lost their lives during the First World War.
The monument features an obelisk topped with a ring that bears the inscription: "THAT RIGHT MAY PREVAIL OVER MIGHT." This obelisk stands on a square base adorned with scrolled brackets at each corner. Four bronze plaques are attached to the base, which read: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND TO THE SACRED MEMORY OF ALL THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE INSCRIBED HEREON. THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY SUBSCRIPTION FROM THE PARISHIONERS OF WYKE REGIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE WHO ANSWERED THE CALL OF KING AND COUNTRY AND GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919" followed by the names of 52 men.
The base, featuring the bronze plaques, is set upon a large pedestal with rusticated corners that project outward.
