Description
166 and 168 Church Street are a pair of cottages located in Upwey, dating from the early to mid 19th century. They are constructed from coursed and squared Portland stone and feature a tiled roof. The buildings stand two storeys high and have a total of five windows, with the ground floor windows being three-light casements that are topped with haunched segmental brick arches. There are plank doors located at the second and fourth bays. An additional bay was added to the right end, also in the 19th century, which includes a small two-light flush dormer above a plank door with a segmental head. At the left end, there is a one-storey lean-to with another plank door. The cottages have gable and central square brick ridge stacks. The rear is made of plain rubble and includes a 20th-century lean-to addition at the centre. The interior has not been inspected. These cottages are visually significant as they are situated at a Y-junction where the principal route and Church Street divide.
