Description
The Fairhaven Hotel, formerly known as No. 3 Augusta Place, is a house in a row dating from the late 18th century, which was raised by one storey in the mid-19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork, a stone basement, and a slate double roof with an internal valley. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with three windows that are all plain sashes, including three hipped dormers. The basement, made of rusticated stonework, has two doors.
To the right, there is a six-panel door located on one nosed and four plain stone steps, set beneath a wide arch with a radial fanlight and sub-arch, along with a transom and narrow side-lights, all framed within a moulded architrave. At the time of the survey, the front was covered with creeper growth, obscuring many details, but previous records mention stone bands and sill bands, flat rusticated arches over the ground- and first-floor windows, a moulded cornice, and a parapet. There are two deep stacks on the left party wall.
The interior was not inspected. The property also features original cast-iron railings across the full width of the front, adorned with fleur-de-lys heads and supported by five standards on a stone curb. There is a gate leading to the basement steps on the left, and the railings return to the main door, including a run to the right of the steps.
