SY 78 NW WEST KNIGHTON

6/72 Barn and attached yard walls immediately west of Church of St Peter GV II

Barn. Later C18. Rubblestone base with brick walls above. Hipped slate roofs and stone slabs at eaves. Large brick porch to north with hipped slate roof. 2-leaf plank doors and cambered brick arch over. Brick porch on south side with 2-leaf plank doors. Interior: roof is scissor-braced with bolted collars throughout. Attached yard walls run for 25 metres by 20 metres, making a yard to north of barn Rubblestone base and chalk cob walls throughout, with rounded corners. Roman tile coping to chalk cob, C18 or C19. This is a good example of cob walling in the context of a farm yard.
