Description
This is a barn dating from the late 18th century, located immediately west of the Church of St Peter in West Knighton. The barn features a rubblestone base with brick walls above, topped with hipped slate roofs and stone slabs at the eaves. There is a large brick porch on the north side with a hipped slate roof, which includes two-leaf plank doors and a cambered brick arch above. A similar brick porch on the south side also has two-leaf plank doors. Inside, the roof is scissor-braced with bolted collars throughout.
Attached to the barn are yard walls that extend for 25 meters by 20 meters, creating a yard to the north. These walls have a rubblestone base and are made of chalk cob, featuring rounded corners. The coping is made of Roman tiles, dating from the 18th or 19th century. This structure is a notable example of cob walling within the context of a farmyard.
