Description

Sunnyside and Wayside Cottages are two attached cottages that were originally a farmhouse, dating back to the 17th century with a brick refacing dated 1719. The building features a rendered plinth and brick-faced walls with a plat band, topped by a thatched roof that is half-hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. There is a substantial brick chimney stack located at the ridge left of center and another at the right gable. The structure has two storeys and includes four windows, primarily 20th-century wooden casements, along with one 19th-century cast iron casement on the upper right. The ground floor windows have cambered brick arches.

The entrance to Sunnyside is on the left end wall, featuring a 20th-century brick porch with a gabled roof and a glazed door. The Wayside entrance has a 19th-century plank door on the north end wall, accompanied by a plank porch. Inside, the cottage has three rooms that have been subdivided, with bread ovens located in the two northern rooms.

At the rear of the house is an attached 18th-century barn that has been converted into a dwelling between 2004 and 2005, but this structure is not of special interest. Overall, Sunnyside and Wayside Cottages are a notable example of a 17th-century and early 18th-century farmhouse that largely retains its original structure and layout.
