Description
This is an early 18th-century farmhouse, with later alterations and replacement windows from the early 19th century. It is a detached house constructed of brick walls in English bond, with a prominent first-floor band. The roof is slate, with gable ends, and features 19th-century brick stacks at the north gable and centrally along the ridge. The original layout included an entrance hall and staircase flanked by two heated rooms and a kitchen, with a long, straight range divided into four compartments. The house has two storeys and attics. The west-facing elevation has six windows, plus a window to a rebuilt cheese room. All the windows are sash windows with cambered brick arches. A 20th-century brick porch with a gabled slate roof sits to the left of the centre of the west elevation; the outer door is panelled and glazed, while the inner door has six flush panels and a fanlight above. The south end of the house formerly contained a cheese room and dairy. The house was built in the late 17th century for the Richards family, by James Richards Esq.
