Description

Higher Lewell Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 17th century, largely rebuilt in the 1760s and bearing the date "RSP 176" in vitrified brick headers. Further extensions were added in the mid-19th century to the west and east. The farmhouse is constructed of squared rubble walls with brickwork in Flemish bond to much of the ground and first floors. A plat band sits above the first-floor windows. The 19th-century extensions are built with Broadmayne brick. The main house has clay tile roofs with gable ends, while the remainder has slate roofs. Rendered stacks are present on the left gable, with brick stacks on the ridge, centrally, and on the right slate gable.

The original part of the house is two storeys high and has three windows on the first floor, including a sash window and an elliptical bay window projecting over the porch, which is made up of four casement windows with glazing bars. The ground floor features a plank front door with two glazed lights (likely 19th and 20th century), a canted bay window with sashes, and a 19th-century bay window. A two-storey extension to the west has three-light wood and cast-iron casement windows. Attached stables and a cart shed at the east end have brick walls and a slate roof. A stable door with a plank door is present, along with a carriage entrance to the right, featuring two-leaf plank doors and a segmental arch.
