Description
This is a former schoolhouse and attached school, now converted into two private residences. The building was constructed in 1865 and is built of dressed stone with ashlar quoins. It has a clay tile roof with gable ends, stone gable copings, and ovolo-moulded kneelers. Stone stacks are present at the left gable and at the right inner gable.
The schoolhouse is two storeys high and has three windows arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern. The windows feature straight chamfered stone mullions with separate returned labels over, and cast iron casements with a lozenge pattern of glazing bars. The central doorway has a depressed arch head and straight chamfered jambs, a plank door with strap hinges, and a separate label.
The school section is single-storey and has three windows with a 3:2 cross transom configuration and three lights, also with separate returned labels. More recent metal casements feature lozenge leaded lights. A projecting bellcote is located in the second bay, with weathered buttresses and capstones. A porch entrance on the south end of the front wall is gabled and contains a clock in the gable; the entrance itself has a two-centred head and label, and a C20 plank door.
