Description
Lower Sandpit Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 19th century. The south gable end is marked with the date 1813, and the north gable end has the date 1823. The building features rubble-stone walls and a lozenge slate-hung gable-end at the first floor level. It has a slate roof with stone gable copings and brick stacks on both the left and right gables. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has four windows, which include 4-light and 3-light wooden casements with lead lights, as well as one sash window on the left side, all with wooden lintels. The front door is located to the left of centre, featuring recessed panels and a wooden lintel above, with three steps leading up to it.
Attached to the farmhouse on the right side is a stable built with the same materials, also featuring stone gable copings and a ball finial. The stable has a central stable door with arch voussoirs, a pointed-arch window on the left side, and a loft door in the centre that leads to an upper threshing floor, complete with a windlass and pulley. There is a segmental-arch entrance on the gable end with two-leaf plank doors.
