Description
58 High Street is a 18th-century house located at the upper end of a short row, set back from the street. It has been altered in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from large squared and coursed Portland stone and features a slate roof. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a symmetrical front with two windows. The windows are late 20th-century casements, and there is a prominent gabled central face dormer. A central door leads to a stone-cheeked porch with a flat concrete slab roof. There is a stone stack on each gable, positioned halfway up the roof slope, with a skirt and capping; the left stack has been raised clumsily in brick. The right return gable features late 20th-century casements at the first floor and attic levels, and there are marks on the gable indicating where a previously adjoining property was removed. A stone stack has been raised in brick to the back eaves. This house was built as one of a pair with No 60, which is adjacent.
