Description

No. 135 is a house located at the end of a row on High Street in Fortuneswell, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of Portland ashlar and features an asbestos-cement slate roof. The building has a wide, symmetrical frontage with two storeys and an attic, and it is two-windowed. Above the three-light stone chamfer-mullion casements, which have flush plat surrounds, are two small raking dormers with 2-light casements. A central 20th-century door is set beneath a slated stone gabled porch. The gable ends have slightly raised verges and feature gable stacks; the left stack is cropped to ridge level, while the right has a capping. The rear of the house includes two large 20th-century dormers, a small 2-light casement in a flush surround, and a small single light on the first floor, along with a full-width flat-roofed extension. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to retain plank and muntin partitions.

In front of the house, to the left, there is a boundary wall made of large square blocks, approximately 1.6 meters high, without coping, which runs along the party boundary and connects to a lower front boundary wall, around 1 meter high, featuring central plain square stone piers that form a gateway. This property is part of the best remaining group in Underhill.
