Description

This is a small, late 18th-century house in a row, located on the north side of High Street in Fortuneswell, Portland. It was originally shown on Ordnance Survey maps as numbers 10 and 12. The house is constructed of painted squared and coursed Portland stone, with a slate roof. It is a long, shallow, symmetrical two-story house with two windows, featuring plate glass sash windows and a central 20th-century door. It has raised roof verges and stone stacks, one with a molded capping and the other with a brick capping. The rear elevation is plain. Behind the main building, a lean-to outbuilding is attached, constructed of rubble with a corrugated iron roof; it includes a door at the right-hand end accessed by a short flight of stone steps. A connecting wall remains from an adjoining garage to the right (which is not considered to be of special interest. The outbuilding is representative of the small-scale development that occurred in Fortuneswell during the 18th century.
