Description

This is a late 19th-century office building in a row, located immediately next to the Post Office and sharing some of its architectural details. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It is three storeys high with a two-window front. The upper floors have arched sash windows, with more elaborate detailing on the first floor and a stone arch with a key and dripstone above the second-floor windows. Pilasters with simple capitals frame the windows, and there is a cill band at the second floor. The ground floor features a heavy, rusticated door surround with deep consoles and heavy keystones. A pair of Roman Doric columns are set back, framing a large shop front above a modelled apron, topped with a heavy cornice and plain frieze. Terracotta decoration at the eaves level continues from the adjoining Post Office. A brick stack is located on the right side of the building, and there is a plain return gable. The building is a simplified version of the adjacent property, likely designed by the same person, and remains externally unaltered, reflecting the commercial prosperity of the area in the late 19th century.
