Description
107 and 109 High Street are a pair of houses from the early 19th century, constructed from coursed and squared stone with a double Roman tile roof. They are two storeys tall with an attic, and each house features a single window. The former 16-pane sash windows now lack horizontal bars and sit on stooled stone cills. The front doors, which date from the 19th century, are three-panel designs with rosettes beneath small horizontal overlights.
The houses have a small plinth that slopes down to the pavement on the left side, with raised alternating quoins and plain lintel bands at each floor. The right verge is raised and cement rendered, featuring a prominent moulded kneeler at the front. To the left, No. 105 has been raised on the original party wall, and a similar kneeler is built into its gable wall. The right gable return is rendered and includes a small four-pane sash window in both the attic and first floor. The rear of the houses has flush quoins and two very large 20th-century dormer windows. A central ridge stack made of brick is present. This design is unusual due to its larger windows and has become somewhat isolated due to demolitions and 20th-century changes to the surrounding buildings.
