Description

No. 141 is a house located on the south side of High Street in Fortuneswell, with origins dating from the late 17th century or 18th century, although it was re-fenestrated in the early 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed and squared stone and features a stone slate roof. It has a wide frontage and appears to have been divided into three cottages (numbers 141-143) at one time, but is now a single property. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a three-windowed facade. Above the 16-pane sash windows, there are two small hipped dormers featuring 18th-century two-light casements. The front also includes three 20th-century six-panel doors set in flush surrounds and two brick ridge stacks. On the left end, there are signs of a former wide window with a surround similar to those found at numbers 137 and 139. The rear of the house has a central decaying gabled dormer over a plain slated roofing area, with a 16-pane sash window below. The interior has not been inspected.

The property is complemented by subsidiary features, including a low rubble wall with rough saddle-back coping along the front boundary. This wall has a central pair of plain stone piers topped with 20th-century figure crestings, and it contains a wrought-iron gate with a reticulated pattern, likely from the 18th or early 19th century. No. 141 is part of one of the best remaining groups of houses in Underhill, showcasing an exceptionally complete frontage that still retains its stone slate roof.
