Description
No. 199 on Brandy Lane is a former small house or houses, now derelict and used as stores or workshops. It likely dates from the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed from large squared dressed Portland stone and has corrugated iron roofs. It consists of two units.
Adjoining No. 197 is a two-storey section featuring two square openings on the first floor, and a 4-pane and a 16-pane window on the ground floor, along with a plank stable door to a plain opening on the far right. This section has a raised verge and a small cropped gable stack.
To the left, approximately 1.5 meters higher up the slope but with a common eaves level, is a single-storey unit that has a wide central opening with an ovolo-moulded wood lintel and a wide 16-pane sash window. There is also a swept-down addition to the left, which includes some roof tiles and a 2-light casement window. The top gable, partly set into the hillside, features a wide opening above a loading door at ground level, along with a raised verge and a cropped stone stack topped with a small brick chimney. The back of the building has two openings that are encroached upon by the built-up ground level. These two units are part of a significant surviving row and are older than the surrounding structures.
