Dominey'S Farmhouse Old Farmhouse

Dominey's Farmhouse, also known as Old Farmhouse, is a house dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations and additions made in the 16th, 17th, and 18th or 19th centuries. It features a timber frame with a facade of squared, coursed rubble and a thatched roof that is hipped and half-hipped, with a central brick stack running parallel to the ridge. The building has a T-plan, with a 17th-century rear wing and an 18th-century extension to the south. It stands two storeys tall with irregular fenestration, including three-light wooden casements without glazing bars. To the right, there is a rectangular bay window with casements also lacking glazing bars. The south extension has a two-light casement below and a three-light chamfered, timber-mullioned window above. The house is constructed using jointed cruck, with one exposed truss visible in the north wall. Inside, notable features include fireplaces with moulded bressummers and jambs, chamfered and moulded ceiling beams, a ceiling of chamfered intersecting beams, a plank and muntin partition, a 17th-century balustrade, and fragments of moulded plasterwork. The house likely started as an open hall house with services at the north end and a third room to the south. Over time, the end rooms were ceiled, leaving the hall open, and around 1600, the hall was ceiled, and various improvements were made.
