Description

Yewtree Cottage is a farmhouse, likely dating back to the 16th or 17th century, although it has undergone significant alterations in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with rendered infill and a thatched roof. The house has a two-storey, L-shaped layout. The front of the house displays thirteen bays of uneven, small timber framing. A 20th-century door is positioned to the right of the centre, flanked by 3-light 19th-century casement windows. Dormer windows with swept tops, also containing 3-light openings, are set into the roofline on both sides. A 20th-century brick stack is located to the left of the centre. The remaining sides and rear of the building feature brick walls rendered to resemble timber framing, with 20th-century windows. Inside, the ground floor rooms retain massive chamfered ceiling beams. A large ingle-nook fireplace is present, featuring a chamfered bressumer (a large beam above the fireplace) supported by ashlar side and rear walls and an ashlar corbel on the right. Original four-plank doors also survive. The first floor rooms contain two queen post trusses and wind bracing to the purlins.
