Description
No. 48 on West Street in Corfe Castle is a house at the right end of a terrace, which was once used as a shop and incorporated a former bakery. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the early 19th century. The building features rubble stone walls, with the left section having a stone slate roof and the right section having a slate roof. It is two storeys high.
In the left section, there is a blocked doorway, while the ground floor has one sash window with glazing bars. On the first floor, there are two similar sash windows. The right section has a ground floor that includes a single-panel door flanked by three-light sashes with glazing bars, which replaced the original shop windows. The first floor of this section also has two sash windows with glazing bars.
Internally, the old bake ovens are still present. This property is managed by the National Trust.
