Description

This is a house, originally likely a long-house, dating from the mid to late 16th century. It was altered in the 17th and 18th centuries and significantly restored in 1984. The building was once two cottages and is situated on West Street in Corfe Castle. It is built of rubble stone with a thatched roof and features a stone stack to the left of the front door and a brick stack at the right end. The house is one storey tall with an attic. A 20th-century oak ledged door leads into the original cross-passage. To the right of the door are two 20th-century plain casement windows. To the left of the door is a small fire window with a stone surround and two more plain casement windows. Small rectangular windows with stone surrounds are set under the eaves, along with one blocked window of a similar design. The attic has four dormers, each with a plain casement window.

The interior retains jointed cruck roof trusses, with traces of smoke-blackening indicating the original open-hall form. An inserted ceiling sits above the hall, incorporating deep chamfered intersecting ceiling beams, some of which have been restored. The hall also features a large open fireplace with a timber lintel.
