Description

Ye Olde Cottage, dating from the late 18th century to the early to mid 19th century, is a low stone cottage located on the north-east side of South Street. It features two storeys and an attic with a two-window front. The cottage has three-light wood casements and a trellis porch, along with a four-panelled door that has the upper two panels glazed.

The garden walls are made of stone rubble, with a coping that projects forward from the front angle of the left-hand return, extending to a low panelled pier with a peaked capping. From this point, a low ashlar dwarf wall and railings run south to a stone pier next to the premises occupied by Hincanton Transport and Engineering Company Limited. The railings include uprights with spiked finials and standards with coved finials, along with a gate.

Ye Olde Cottage, along with Nos 1 to 8 (consecutive), Duck House including garden wall and railings, Gainsborough House including dwarf wall, railings and gate, an outbuilding to the south of Gainsborough House, gate piers to the Old Bidewell, The Antique Shop, and Lodbourne Hall, form a group of listed buildings.
