Description

28 East Street is a cottage, possibly converted from a farm building, dating from the late 18th century. It is built of ham stone that is cut and squared, with ashlar dressings, and features a clay pantiled roof between coped gables. The north gable has a ball finial, and there is a brick and rendered stack on the south gable. The cottage is two stories with an attic, and each facade has one bay. The north gable facing the street has an early 20th-century door under a timber lintel, with a timber casement window above that has an exposed timber lintel. There are also hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in ogee recesses in the attic, featuring a two-light design with a label. On the east flank, there is a centrally placed three-light window below and a matching two-light mullioned window, along with an off-centre 20th-century flat-roofed dormer window. The interior has not been seen. The cottage was sold off from the estate of No. 26 to Job Gould, who was the re-founder of the twine works, in 1898.
