Description

Lodbourne Hall is a mid to later 19th-century building located on the northeast side of South Street. It is a two-storey structure with a four-window bay front, featuring a slate gabled roof with stone coping and ashlar flanking stacks. The front is made of ashlar stone and includes a pierced panel parapet, a stone cornice with modillions, an ovolo course, and a narrow string course at the first floor level.

On the first floor, there are four sash windows without glazing bars. The ground floor has, from left to right, a five-light bay window with a modillion cornice and blocking course that spans two first-floor window bays. In the third bay, there is an ornate ashlar prostyle porch supported by rusticated Doric columns, featuring a round-headed doorway flanked by pilasters and topped with a mask head keystone, a plain fanlight, and a six-panelled door. The fourth bay on the right end has another sash window without glazing bars.

The left-hand return of Lodbourne Hall shows a gable end with two storeys and two window bays. There is a lower rear wing to the north, and the parapet has capping.

Lodbourne Hall is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 8 (consecutive), Duck House with its garden wall and railings, Gainsborough House with a dwarf wall, railings, and gate, an outbuilding to the south of Gainsborough House, gate piers to the Old Bidewell, The Antique Shop, Ye Olde Cottage with its garden walls and railings.
