Description
The gate piers to the Old Bidewell, located on the north-east side of South Street, date from the 17th to 18th century. The Old Bidewell was present in Sherborne until 1793. These tall stone jambs feature hinges, with the left-hand pier built into the south wall of an outbuilding, while the right-hand pier is attached to the north-west corner of The Antique Shop. The gate piers are part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 8 (consecutive), the Duck House with its garden wall and railings, Gainsborough House with its dwarf wall, railings, and gate, an outbuilding south of Gainsborough House, The Antique Shop, Lodbourne Hall, and Ye Olde Cottage, which also includes garden walls and railings.
