Description

Gainsborough House is a late medieval building with later additions, located on South Street. The north wing likely originated in the late medieval period and has roof timbers dating from that time. It is slightly higher and projects slightly forward. This wing is two storeys high with two window bays, topped by a stone slate roof with coping, and features a parapet. The front is rendered. It has sash windows on the upper floor and two-light casements with small panes on the lower floor. A lean-to addition now serves as the main entrance at the south end of this wing. A southern wing, also two storeys high and with three window bays, has a plaintile roof with stone coping and a stone front. A stone wall and door are situated to the south of the house. The house is attached to Duck House.
