Description
Baytree Cottage, previously known as Ye Olde Cottage, is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, with a thatched roof. The building is aligned northeast to southwest and features two axial chimney stacks, along with a southeast wing at the southwest end. There is a two-storey extension from the 19th century with a slated lean-to roof in the western angle, and a single-storey extension with a shingled lean-to roof added to the southeast of the northeast end in the 20th century. The cottage has a single storey with attics.
On the southwest elevation, which faces The Green, there is a 20th-century glazed door, a 20th-century metal casement window, and an early 18th-century two-light window with rectangular leading. Additionally, there is another window featuring one wrought iron casement and one fixed light. On the first floor, there is a 19th-century horizontally sliding sash window with eight lights and a 19th-century casement window with four lights in a thatched gabled dormer, which has the inscription 'Ye Olde Cottage' in the gable. The cottage is included for its group value.
