Description

The Fig Tree with Pump is a house that was formerly two cottages, numbered 43 and 45, located on the south side of High Street in Langton Matravers. Cottage number 45 dates from the 18th century, while number 43 is believed to have been built around 1800. The building features rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs, and stone end stacks. It is partly two storeys and partly one storey with an attic.

The left section, number 43, has a 20th-century glazed door with a canopy. The ground floor includes one sash window with glazing bars, and the first floor has one top-hung window with glazing bars. The right section, number 45, has three sash windows with glazing bars under stone arches on the ground floor. The attic features two pent-roofed half-dormers with sash windows that also have glazing bars.

Inside, the main ground floor room boasts a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven, along with some exposed ceiling beams. In front of the house, there is a cast iron pump.
