Description

The Old Rectory, formerly known as The Rectory, is a former rectory that has been converted into a private house, with part of it serving as a residential home. The original building dates back to the 17th century and was enlarged to the north and east in the 19th century. The original section features rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof, with a brick end stack. It is two storeys high. On the garden front, the ground floor has two 3-light and two 2-light stone mullioned windows, all with hoodmoulds and sashes. The first floor contains four similar 2-light windows.

To the right, there is an early to mid-19th century two-storey extension, which is at a higher level and also has rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof with brick end stacks. This extension features a pair of French doors and one fixed window on the ground floor, while the first floor has one sash window with a central glazing bar.

A large, later 19th-century two-storey extension on the north side forms the entrance front. It has rock-faced ashlar walls and a slate roof, with two stone stacks rising from the eaves. The entrance features a panelled door and fanlight set in a segmental pointed arch, complete with a hoodmould. The ground floor includes three sash windows with glazing bars beneath stone lintels and relieving arches, and the first floor has four sash windows with glazing bars.

There is also a 20th-century single-storey stone extension at the left end. Inside, the original section boasts a large fireplace that includes a bread oven, which has been partly built up. The property is surrounded by rubble stone boundary walls at the front and side, topped with flat stone coping.
