Description

This is a row of early to mid-19th century buildings on Orchard Street. The buildings are two storeys high and have stucco facades. They are topped with slate mansard roofs. The ground floor bays are splayed outwards, with a more modern splayed bay at number 36. Numbers 38 and 40 are designed as a unit, featuring linked doorways with moulded panelled pilasters and a hood above. There's also a blind window above the doorways. Number 36 has a similar doorcase but with a modern door. Number 36 is included in the listing primarily for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings. Numbers 24 to 56 (even) are also recognised as a group.
