Description
No. 78 Salisbury Street is a building dating from around 1820 to 1830. It is three storeys high with a three-window stucco front that is set back. The basement is present, and the ground floor features rusticated detailing. The upper storeys retain their original Tuscan glazing bars. The doorway is adorned with a moulded hood and Tuscan pilasters. There is a well-crafted iron balustrade leading up to the steps, which are curved in plan. The area railings have spear-headed finials and alternate curved heads, although the railings to the garden have been removed. Nos. 76 to 88 (even) showcase an early 19th-century style that, while common in other locations, is relatively rare in Blandford. Nos. 70 to 88 (even) are part of a cohesive group.
