Description

This is a range of early to mid-19th century stucco-faced houses, numbered 3 to 9, arranged around a small square. Number 3 has a narrow front with tripartite windows on each floor, featuring stucco dividing strips – these are blind on the second floor – and moulded cornices. The doorway follows a similar pattern, with side lights, Tuscan pilasters and an entablature. Houses 3 to 7 are somewhat taller, each featuring a canted, full-height bay, plus a single window bay to the left. This bay contains a door recessed within a surround of panelled and reeded pilasters and an entablature. The sash windows have no glazing bars. Later attic storeys have been added to some of the houses. Number 8, now incorporated into number 7, is the tallest in the range and has a plain surround to the door, with console brackets to the cornice above. Number 9 is similar to number 8 but retains glazing bars to the sash windows. The roofs are low pitched and slate, although some have been altered by the later addition of attics. This group of buildings has group value, and they combine with the listed buildings on Falconer's Road to create a cohesive architectural setting.
