Description
The former Harvey's timber store and drying shed, now known as Jewson's Builders Merchants, is a timber store and drying shed built around the mid-19th century for Harvey and Co. It has been altered in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of granite and brick, featuring a hipped and gable-ended roof that has been re-clad in corrugated asbestos. The structure is L-shaped, with the longer southeast range consisting of 10 bays and the shorter northwest range comprising 4 bays. There is a 20th-century glazed addition on the east end.
The building is single storey with open fronts on the north and east sides, showcasing 10 and 4 bays respectively, supported by square dressed granite piers. The four bays at the east end are glazed in the 20th century. The rear wall is made of stone rubble with a brick superstructure above, which includes ventilation holes. Inside, the building features tie-beam roof trusses.
