Description
The walls and structures associated with a former iron foundry, built around the early 19th century for Harvey and Co., are located on Foundry Lane in Hayle. These remnants are constructed from grouted rubble with granite and brick dressings. The layout features a cranked-on-plan courtyard with retaining walls on three sides. On the south side, there is a small doorway that leads to steps up to a garden. The high wall at the end of the courtyard encloses a large vaulted chamber that is rectangular in shape. The north wall also fronts three similar chambers, all of which are built into an earth bank.
The exterior of the end wall is topped with a parapet that includes a string course and coping. It features a wide elliptically-arched doorway with a projecting granite keystone. To the left, there is a pointed-arched opening with a granite-keyed brick arch that rises from the parapet string. The right-hand wall contains three elliptically-arched doorways, each with brick arches. The inner two doorways have rounded corners on the jambs and arches, while the outer doorway has square corners.
