Description
The Triumphal Arch, built in 1843 for Harvey and Company, is located on Foundry Lane in Hayle. It is said to commemorate the Leeghwater Engine contract for draining the Haarlemmer Meer in Holland. The arch is constructed from granite ashlar and features rectangular-plan abutments on either side of a wide carriageway. Notable architectural details include a plinth, rusticated and vermiculated quoins and voussoirs, double impost bands, an elliptical arch with a projecting keystone, a moulded cornice, and a tall ashlar blocking course.
