Description
Wesley Villas comprises a pair of attached houses built around 1840. The front faces the road and is constructed of roughly-dressed slatestone rubble with granite quoins and brick dressings; the sides and rear are of random rubble. The roof is slate, hipped, with ridge coping tiles and a central stack. The wings projecting from the front have gabled ends with stacks on their outer sides.
The houses are symmetrically arranged, each entered from the outer side. There is a projecting wing to the right and left of each house, with the central rooms benefiting from heating from a central stack, and the front wing rooms heated by stacks on the outer sides. Each house also has a central, two-room rear service wing.
The front wings each have 1:2:1 bay arrangements. The gabled wings feature a large six-pane sash window with a cambered brick head on the ground floor, and a smaller twelve-pane sash window with a matching brick head on the first floor. Each gable has scalloped bargeboards and a finial. The central bays have large twelve-pane sashes at ground floor and smaller twelve-pane sashes at first floor, all within cambered brick surrounds.
The left and right sides each have a four-panelled door with a pedimented cornice, and a twelve-pane sash window with a brick surround above. The lower, two-storey service wings at the rear have two two-light casements on the ground floor and two horizontal sliding sashes under the eaves, along with doors at each end. The interior has not been inspected.
