Description

16 North Street is a house that likely dates back to the early 16th century, with various alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble, featuring a granite ashlar buttress on the left end wall and a limestone window at the front. It has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends and a brick stack on the right, along with a rear lateral stack.

The house has a two-room plan, with the entrance located on the right side leading to a passage that goes to the rear. The room on the left is heated by the rear lateral stack, while the first-floor room on the right is heated by the gable end stack. In the 19th century, the right room was used as a shop, and there is a single-storey addition at the rear left from the 20th century.

The building stands two storeys high and has three windows. The first floor features 4-pane sash windows. On the ground floor, there is a 3-light window from the 20th century and an early 16th-century limestone 2-light mullion and transom window, which is blocked and has cusped lights with a hollow-chamfered surround. Additionally, there is a large 3-light window on the right, formerly part of the shop, along with a 20th-century door and double doors at the end right. The thick left gable end rises higher than the roof and includes a granite ashlar buttress and a small recess at the ground floor. The eaves level is higher at the left end, covered with corrugated asbestos. The interior has been significantly altered in the 20th century.
