Description
No. 23 Fore Street is a house with a shop on the ground floor, dating from the early 19th century, with later alterations and additions. The building is made of rendered stone rubble and features a hipped slate roof with a brick stack at the rear. It has a double-depth plan, one room wide, with the entrance to the front room, now the shop, located at the front of the left side, and a separate entrance to the house at the rear of the left side. There is a rear service wing. The building is two storeys tall with an attic on a plinth. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop window, while the first floor features a granite cill band course, a central round-headed 16-pane sash window with splayed glazing bars and blind sidelights, and the second floor has two 20th-century two-light windows. The left side of the building is in granite rubble, with granite quoins at the first and second floor levels, a 20th-century shop door to the right, and a door to the house on the left. On the first floor to the right, there is a two-pane sash window. Attached to the rear is a two-storey service wing with a pitched roof, along with a further one-and-a-half-storey addition that has a door with a brick segmental head. The interior has not been inspected.
