Description

LOSTWITHIEL FORE STREET (south side), SX 15 NW Lostwithiel 10/89 No 17 - GV II

House, with shop and bank at ground floor. Circa 1800, with mid C19 and later alterations. Granite ashlar front and left side. Hipped slate roof with stacks removed. Double depth plan with central entrance, one large room to left and right front, with service rooms to rear (incorporated into shop and bank at ground floor). The house is stepped down to left, at lower floor level. Symmetrical facade with asymmetrical fenestration; 5 bays on plinth, centre bay recessed slightly. 2 bays to right and centre bay are of 2 storeys, 2 bays to left of 3 storeys. To left, ground floor has C20 plate-glass shop window with recessed half-glazed door to right, heads remaining from original ground floor sashes. First floor has two 12-pane sashes, 2nd floor has two 9-pane sashes. Central bay has 6- panelled door with overlight, set in recessed bay, with 12-pane sash at first floor. 2 bays to right have 2 sashes at ground floor, partly plate-glass and part 6-panes, two 12-pane sashes at firsst floor. Moulded eaves cornice over all. Wall steps back to end right, to a lower 2 storey block also in ashlar, possibly of later C19, with sash at ground floor and 9-pane sash at first floor. Interior Not inspected.
