Description
GRADE-RUAN HENDRA SW 71 NW 6/40 Hendra Farmhouse II Farmhouse, circa late C17. Rendered stone rubble walls with slurried scantle slate roof. Brick chimneys at gabled ends. 2 room with central cross passage blocked by staircase housed in rear projection. Dairy added under cat slide roof on north-east. 2 storeys, symmetrical 3 windows south front. Ground floor with 2 C20 2-light casement windows without glazing bars flanking C20 timber door. First floor 3 C20 2-light casement windows without glazing bars. Rear (north) elevation with staircase project under hipped roof. C18 and C20 extensions to the north-east. Room on east with large open fireplace with granite lintel and 2 cloan ovens. Unusual C17 ovolo moulded beams. Late C17 dog-leg staircase wtih simple, turned balustrades moulded rail and flat bun finial to newel post. (Roof space not inspected). 200 m to east of farmhouse, crocheted finial possibly from Chapel nearby. Sources: Crocketed final described as spire by E W Godwin, Archaeological Journal (18) 1861.
