Description
Erisey Manor House is a Grade II listed farmhouse built in 1620, designed in the shape of an 'E'. Part of the original structure has been incorporated into 18th-century rebuilding and extensions, forming the present farmhouse. It was constructed for the Erisey family, with Richard Erisey being responsible for the 1620 building. The male line of the family became extinct in 1772.
The house features large blocks of serpentine rubble with coursed serpentine on the southeast, and granite dressings. The slate roofs are complemented by brick chimneys at the hipped ends. The layout is in the shape of a 'T', with the earlier part of the house forming the base of the 'T' and includes a cross passage.
The northeast front has a centrally placed door with a datestone reading "16 . E . 20", framed by a rectangular granite surround with a roll-moulded four-centred arch and diablo stops at the base of the jambs. The initials R and M are found in the spandrels. There are two ground floor windows on either side of the door, which are partly fixed with glazing bars and have granite lintels. Above these, on the first floor, are two windows with three fixed lights, glazing bars, and lapped glass.
The southeast facade is symmetrical with five windows. The ground floor features a central 19th-century panelled door in a granite surround, with a window on the far left that has 24-pane sashes without horns, and three other windows with 16-pane sashes, also without horns. Large granite lintels create a horizontal band over the ground floor windows. On the first floor, there are four 16-pane sashes without horns and a central blocked window opening, with a granite horizontal band continuing above the windows nearly to the corners of the facade.
Inside, the 18th-century joinery remains intact, including dado fielded panels in the dining room on the southeast and simple panels in the cross passage. The kitchen on the northwest has a large unchamfered lintel over the fireplace. The first floor has not been inspected.
