Old Bible Christian Chapel Including Adjoining Former Trap House And Courtyard Walls

The Old Bible Christian Chapel, dating from 1857, is now used as a Sunday schoolroom. It includes an adjoining former trap-house, earth-closets, courtyard walls, gate-piers, and a gate. The chapel is constructed of roughly coursed granite rubble with granite dressings, and features a roof made of asbestos slate with a pedimented gable at the front and a chimney at the rear. The trap-house and one earth-closet have scantle slate roofs, and there is a brick chimney at the front of the trap-house along with cast-iron ogee-section gutters.

The chapel has a small rectangular shape without aisles, and the trap-house is attached to the front left corner. The chapel has two windows and retains its original doors and windows, including a pair of two-panel doors in a round-headed opening with a plain fanlight above. The door arch features vermiculated rusticated voussoirs, and there are 12-pane sashes at the first-floor level, which was formerly a gallery, topped with a pediment that has moulded cornices and a plaque with the name and date. The side walls have square-headed window openings with 20th-century windows, except for a round-headed window with an original hornless sash and a traceried head located towards the rear of the left side.

The trap-house has a right-hand wall at the front with a 19th-century six-pane horned sash on the left and a partly blocked original wide doorway on the right. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to lack original fittings. The rubble courtyard wall adjoining the right-hand front corner of the chapel features dressed granite copings, and the gateway has pyramidally-headed dressed granite monolithic piers with an original wrought-iron gate that includes fleurs-de-lys and scrolled details.
