Description

This is a Bible Christian Chapel, constructed in 1900, with associated courtyard walls, gate piers, and a gate. It is built of dressed granite, brought to course, with granite dressings, and has a dry slate roof with a pedimented gable at the front and a hipped end at the rear. The building retains its original rectangular, aisle-less plan. There are three porches: one midway along the left-hand front entrance, and two clasping the rear corners, each with steps leading to their doorways. The architectural style is Classical with some Gothic detailing.

The front elevation is tall and symmetrical, with chamfered plinths. The window arrangement is 1:1:1, with the central bay broken forward, topped by a pediment, and the flanking bays with balustrades featuring terminal newels surmounted by ball finials. The central bay contains a tall, four-light transomed mullioned window with stepped, round-headed lights and tracery above the central lights. The pediment has a machicolated cornice, moulded kneelers, a moulded coping, the name and date in bold relief, memorial plaques, and a central quatrefoil. Flanking bays each feature a single, round-headed window, all with hoodmoulds. The windows retain their original coloured leaded glazing. The side walls have simple glazing in original round-headed openings. Porches have original panelled doors; the principal porch has a traceried fanlight with coloured glass, and the porch on the right has granite steps and an original iron handrail on stanchions.

Inside, the front walls are low, with dressed granite copings that originally had iron railings, now removed. A wide central gateway has dressed granite square-on-plan piers resembling columns with fluted necking; the terminal piers have rusticated shafts, and all piers have moulded caps with ball finials. The property includes original elaborate cast-iron gates. The taller flanking walls are of rubble and have cemented copings.
