Description

The Old Customs House with attached rear garden wall is a house dating from the early 19th century, with 20th-century alterations and additions. It is constructed of stone rubble, with rendered and slate-hung sections, and has a slate roof with ridge tiles. A gable end faces left, and the right end has a hipped roof. There is a rendered stack to the left, and a stack to the right has been removed. The house is built on a fish cellar with access at road level. The layout is based on a 2-room plan, with the entrance on the left side.

The front has a nearly symmetrical 3-window facade. The cellar has a 20th-century casement window and a half-glazed door. To the right are two 19th-century 4-pane sash windows. The upper ground floor and first floor each have three 20th-century 2-light 6-pane casements, except for a 19th-century 2-light 8-pane casement to the right of the ground floor. The left end is slate-hung and has an external stair leading to a 20th-century porch with a door and a single-light casement. The right end has a 2-light casement at first floor. At the rear is a 2-storey lean-to with a 20th-century casement window to the left.

A painted stone rubble garden wall, approximately 2 metres high, runs in an L-shape along the rear left side, enclosing a rear garden. The interior has not been inspected. The building possesses group value.
